9/11

For the last 2 days I have been watching all the TV shows paying tribute to those who lost lives that day 10 years ago. It brings you back to that day like it was yesterday. I was at work and Chris was working from home while we lived in Richmond, VA. I think we can all remember exactly where we were when we heard the news and watched it on TV. It's one of those moments in history that will be with us forever. Luckily, my family was not personally affected by it, but my heart goes out to everyone that was. I feel for the children that will grow up without their parents.

10 years later, I wonder when is the right time to tell my children about that awful day. The day that changed America and made us more fearful and guarded. How do you explain to your child that thousands of people were killed because there are evil people in the world that do not like America. I want my children to grow up in a bubble where they feel protected and safe and all is right in the world. That there is no bad, and only good. I don't want them to fear getting on our next flight to see our family and wonder if they are going to be safe.

I think Julian is still a little young to understand what happened that day. I want his innocence to continue as long as possible. His school is going to have what a Patriot's day celebration Monday, and I think I will just remind him that we are proud to be Americans and live in this great country. Living abroad gives you a renewed respect for this country and everything it stands for.
